You may remember the precious Hall family who were the winners of our Unfrozen Winner contest earlier this year. They won by submitting this precious snowman photo:
Service Experts Commercial HVAC sent the winners on a Disney Cruise and paid for airfare for four. Bradley and Rebecca took their two oldest youngsters, Korbin and Brooke, on their Disney Cruise earlier this summer. This was Korbin and Brooke’s first cruise and Rebecca and Bradley had not been on a cruise in nearly 10 years.
“I cannot begin to tell you the amount of fun we had and how seriously incredible everything was,” wrote Rebecca. “It was a getaway we could have never done on our own. Disney does cruising right!”
The Hall family was nice enough to give us their itinerary and some snapshots from their amazing trip. If you want to a Disney Cruise, or just looking to see what it’s all about, read on to see the highlights from the Hall’s vacation.
We were on the ship for 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) and then ported in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. We reserved a Catamaran and went out with 4 other families for the day. It was Korbin and Brooke’s first time snorkeling and they had a blast. We spotted turtles and stingrays – it may have been the coolest experience of the entire cruise!
We traveled from Tortola to St. Thomas in the American Virgin Islands, where we got to snorkel even more, swam, and hung out on the beach. The water was truly that turquoise blue that you see in movies – truly incredible.
We traveled all day Wednesday and then docked at Castaway Cay, Disney’s Private Island. The water was so blue and had perfect visibility underneath, so of course we had to do more snorkeling! They had hidden Mickey Mouses you could hunt for underwater, which was nice because there weren’t as many fish. They also had an 18+ beach which we took advantage of while the kids played with other kids. The island had employees everywhere to watch the kids so we (Mom and Dad) relaxed and had a daiquiri. It’s like a floating Disneyland!
It gives me goosebumps reminiscing about everything on the cruise ship – everything was so much fun and amazing! The cruise has a “Midship Detective Agency” where you pick the mystery you want to solve and they give you a card so you can record all your clues. When you place the card up to a painting, it actually springs to life – it talks to you, tells you about the mystery you are working to solve, and gives you hints and directions. One mystery lasted two hours because we were chasing clues all over the cruise ship.
They are continually showing first-run movies out near the pool so we got to watch Big Friendly Giant, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Jungle Book, and Finding Dory. We also got to experience the Aqua Duct, which is a large slide that shoots you up and down and swings you out over the boat!
We went Goofy Golfing and Disney Cruises also have games like basketball, fooseball, and a Tween Club called Edge with activities like scavenger hunts and more.
It’s very easy to meet characters on the ship – you only have to wait a couple minutes versus 30 or 40 at Disneyland. We saw about two per day, and one day we hit five in a row! They also have several versions of the characters, such as Captain Mickey, Traditional Mickey, etc.
The room was amazing! Ours came with an ocean view room with a
really big porthole and window seat. The stateroom was a perfect size and all four of us were comfy and never felt smushed.
You rotate through three restaurants. Enchanted Garden has awesome flower lights on the ceiling that open and close and the colors change on the ceiling during your meal and Royal Court was very elegant and made me think of Cinderella. The menu is very gourmet and they have a good selection. My son tried everything, including escargot at the Royal Court. (He told us it tasted like dirt!)
Animators Palette is animation-themed and they leave markers on your table so you can illustrate a figure. They provide a tutorial on how to draw a figure, then they take the drawings and at the end of your meal, they animate your drawings on these screens on the wall. You have no idea it’s coming! They put them to music and place them in Disney movies. Our daughter is our artist so she put a lot of effort into hers and was so excited – the rest of us weren’t quite as polished
“We can't thank Service Experts enough for this once in a lifetime experience,” Rebecca told us after they returned home. “I get emotional when I think about the whole experience. Submitting an entry I never thought would go anywhere, learning we were a finalist, the anxious voting round, the big announcement, reading about and choosing which cruise, the elation of going and finally experiencing an amazing vacation. It was such an amazing time living it all. Thank you, thank you!”
