Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Not much is worse than laying down at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are some things you can check yourself before calling Service Experts Commercial HVAC.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters each month. If you fail to do so, they can become clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your heating equipment will still not kick on, give Service Experts Commercial HVAC a call at 289-201-2346 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
