What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Commercial HVAC in Toronto always talks about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it really mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be certified by NATE. The certification is optional and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts Commercial HVAC that our experts are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these standards, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Service Experts Commercial HVAC focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only particular areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may receive installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
