4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

The season of spring may have arrived but in Toronto it’s not all warm and comfy outside. Your furnace has been working for months trying to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to show your furnace some affection. If you hear weird noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice an intense gas smell, you almost certainly need furnace repair work and you should call Service Experts Commercial HVAC as soon as possible.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from Service Experts Commercial HVAC.

  • Make sure your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound ridiculous, but we get busy and life happens, so it’s very easy to ignore the simple fixes. Neglecting to change over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Speaking of switches, make sure your furnace switch is in the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially since this switch isn’t one you tend to look at routinely. Most systems have built-in delays so make sure when you turn on your furnace you give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Change your furnace air filter.

You should replace your home’s air filters around every three months to help your heating system run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. An unclean air filter is one of the most typical reasons for declining performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your family to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Confirm that your circuit breaker that controls your heating system is in the “off” position. If it ends up in the middle position, switch the breaker to the “off” position and then switch back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs could be expensive, so avoid a potential issue altogether with regular maintenance from Service Experts Commercial HVAC. However, if you ever do need furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to provide all your heating needs.
